Soothing viscosity of oil paints

Alone, winter (50x70)

In my paintings I try to capture moments so they do not escape through the capriciousness of memory. In this way, I want to become aware of the inner memory, which is not narrative, not logical, it shows itself only briefly, awakened by fragments of smells, voices and atmospheres. And yet it has a powerful influential force upon decisions and experiences in life. So I want to understand this.

I was born in 1974 in Postojna. At 25 I graduated from the Faculty of Law in Ljubljana, and then a long time passed before I dared to embark on a different life path. In 2018, I started studying  philosophy on the basic 1st Bologna level, and then, during the lockdown I found at home my old painting easel and a small set of almost dried oil paints. I've been painting ever since and so far I have had a few solo painting exhibitions and I also participate at Artish craft fares on saturdays on the Gallus quay in Ljubljana (https://www.facebook.com/ARTishSLO).

In 2019 I was introduced into the world of psychotherapeutic relational approaches and personal growth, a never-ending process of changing old images, which can only go through love and deep compassion for others, but also for yourself. In june 2023 I finished a training study programme in Marital and Family therapy at the Faculty of Theology of the University of Ljubljana.

There is something about oils and painting with such buttery consistency which can be profoundly soothing. It opens you up for some mindfulness and, if needed, even for some re-arranging of one’s personal history by viewing it from a different perspective. A painting realized is like an ode to one’s life.
